Social Progressivism Vs Conservatism
Social Progressivism Vs Conservatism
By Carol A Hill
Progress is about change and social progressivism a form of liberalism that promotes a drastic change from economic freedom to more of government control into the private choices of citizens living in a democratic society. In other words, everything for the common good with fewer basic choices is attractive to citizens because they have bought into liberalism's promises of a better life. Issues are brought up about education and health care. Where in a more conservative approach, citizens are left to deal with their basic needs based on affordability.
Social progressives promote the idea that everyone benefits through government intervention by sharing the costs through taxation. All citizens have the right to an education, health care, housing, jobs and equal representation in a court of law. Universal Health care is the first step towards a more progressive lifestyle. However, if health care providers and insurance companies are regulated by government control will there be less of them to provide adequate health care to the thousands that crowd into their offices and clinics or will the best of them cater to those who can afford the current advances in medical technology.
Overhauling the education system assures citizens that they have a right to a higher education. However, will educators become exhausted from overcrowded classrooms and will the best of them cater to private schools and universities educating those students based on being able to afford the higher tuition costs developing an elitist class that gets the highest ranking jobs offered.
Recently in the primary elections, polling places are packed with voter turnout surpassing all expectations. The usual conservative voters challenged with a failed economic downturn are also turning to the one-size-fits-all type of government. The fever of progressivism has spread throughout the countryside like a wildfire. Although after it burns out, will the same idea be reduced to a heap of ashes leaving the citizens wondering was it all worth it. This year on November fourth, voters will cast ballots determining what type of government will prevail. It will be interesting to watch the outcome.
